Library and Information Centre

The Library & Information Centre of BMS College of Architecture, Design & Planning (BMSCA D&P) serves as the knowledge hub of the institution, supporting teaching, learning, research, innovation, and professional development.

The library provides comprehensive information resources and services to meet the academic requirements of students, faculty members, research scholars, and staff of Architecture, Design, and Planning disciplines.

The library has a rich collection of Books, Journals, Magazines, Theses, Project Reports, CDs, E-resources, and Government Documents including Bangalore Master Plan Documents, Handbooks, and other technical publications.

The library also provides an exclusive Digital Reference Section for accessing online learning resources and scholarly information.

02. Library Rules & Regulations

Membership, Services and Borrowing Guidelines

Membership Guidelines

  • Members must produce the barcoded library card to borrow books.
  • Books and other publications should be properly charged and discharged through the library system.
  • Books are issued from the library counter between 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM.
  • Books may be recalled in case of urgent demand.
  • Members should inform the library about any change in e-mail address during membership period.
  • Membership may be cancelled for misuse of library resources, damage to materials, or misconduct.
  • Members must return all borrowed books before proceeding on long leave.
  • Library membership card is strictly non-transferable.
  • Loss of library card/books should be reported immediately.
  • Duplicate Library Card will be issued on payment of ₹100/-.

Overdue / Reservations / Renewals

Overdue

An overdue charge of ₹5/- per day will be collected after the due date. If the book is not returned even after two reminders, library membership will be suspended until further notice.

Reservations

Books issued to other users or displayed in the New Arrivals section can be reserved through Web OPAC. Reservations will be processed according to priority. Reserved books will be kept at the issue counter for two days. After two days, reservation will automatically lapse.

Renewals

Books can be renewed once through Web OPAC, provided there is no reservation or demand from other users. Subsequent renewals require physical presentation of the book at the library counter.

Technology Enabled Library Services

  • The library has automated its services and activities using Koha Integrated Library Management System.
  • Web OPAC provides online searching facilities for library resources.
  • Computerized circulation system ensures fast and efficient issue and return services.
  • Online reservation and renewal facilities are provided through the library system.
  • Personalized reference services are provided to support academic and research requirements.
  • Documentation services include newspaper clipping, bibliographies, reading lists, Current Awareness Service (CAS), and Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI).
  • The library provides access to electronic databases, e-journals, and digital resources through online and institutional networks.
  • Digital Library facility is available for accessing scholarly content and research materials.

05. General Instructions

Library Usage Guidelines

  • Eatables and drinks are not allowed inside the library premises.
  • The library is a place for individual study and research; therefore, users must maintain silence, discipline and a peaceful learning environment.
  • Library materials should be handled carefully. Writing, marking, damaging or mutilating library resources is strictly prohibited.
  • Readers should not replace books or journals on shelves after use. They are requested to leave them on the reading tables.
  • Suggestions for purchasing books and improving library services are welcomed.
  • Use of mobile phones inside the library is strictly prohibited. Mobile phones must be kept in silent mode.
  • The library is not responsible for loss or damage of personal belongings.

06. About the Library Committee

Guiding Excellence in Library Development

The Library Committee is constituted to guide and strengthen the effective functioning and continuous development of the Library & Information Centre.

The Committee provides strategic direction for planning, developing, managing, and modernizing library resources, infrastructure, technologies, and services to support teaching, learning, research, innovation, and lifelong learning.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide policy direction for the development of the Library & Information Centre.
  • Review and strengthen library infrastructure, facilities, collections and services.
  • Recommend procurement of books, journals, databases, e-resources and other learning resources.
  • Review library services to support academic programmes and research activities.
  • Encourage adoption of modern library technologies and digital services.
  • Evaluate user feedback and recommend measures for continuous improvement.
  • Recommend annual library budget and resource allocation.
  • Support NAAC, NIRF, research and institutional quality initiatives.

The Library Committee ordinarily meets once every quarter, or as and when required, to review library activities and recommend measures for continuous improvement.

Note:

Library services will remain unavailable on declared holidays. Users are requested to plan their library visits according to the above schedule.
